Hyundai Translead announced in Joliet, Illinois, on October 22 that it will increase its planned investment in its new Illinois manufacturing operations to $600 million, up from $450 million, and expand its job commitment from 2,500 to 3,750 full-time positions. The company first announced in March that it would build two advanced manufacturing facilities in Will County; the addition of a third production shift accounts for the extra $150 million in investment and 1,250 additional jobs.

CEO Sean Kenney said the expanded investment reflects the company's confidence in Illinois and its workforce and its long-term strategy to grow U.S. manufacturing capacity. The new facilities will support the company's core operations while preserving flexibility for future product lines. Hyundai Translead is North America's leading van trailer manufacturer, producing dry and refrigerated van trailers, flatbeds, truck bodies and dollies; it is headquartered in San Diego, California, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said: "Creating 3,750 new jobs is transformational for the region and it builds on our state's manufacturing momentum." The state said the project reflects collaboration among state, local, community and economic development partners to advance manufacturing growth, workforce development and long-term economic opportunity in Will County.
