Minnesota Solar for Schools Program Reaches 191 Districts: 400 Solar-Powered Schools Expected by Year-End, More Than Double the 2022 Figure

Minnesota Department of Commerce officials highlighted the latest progress of the state's Solar for Schools program on the morning of October 22 at Justice Alan Page Elementary School in Maplewood: Minnesota is on track to have 400 solar-powered schools by the end of the year, more than double the number in 2022.
According to the department, the program has awarded $32.6 million in state grants to 191 school districts since 2022, helping schools invest in solar energy facilities, while a separate program funds electric school buses. The state grants lower the upfront cost barrier for schools installing solar power.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources announced the same day that its 2027 grants for managing invasive aquatic plants will begin accepting applications on November 9, targeting curly-leaf pondweed, Eurasian watermilfoil, flowering rush and starry stonewort.
