Vance Pauses Nebraska Rally After Attendee Has Medical Emergency: Enters Crowd and Leads Prayer

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · States · GSM News

Vice President JD Vance paused his midterm campaign rally in North Platte, Nebraska, on October 22 after a woman standing on the risers behind him appeared to have a medical emergency, and he made his way into the crowd to check on her.

According to USA Today, supporters standing on the risers behind Vance grew concerned for an individual among them, and a handful of attendees flagged down law enforcement. Vance stopped his speech, turned to look behind him, and eventually made his way into the group. "Looks like we got a medical issue everybody, so let's just say a prayer and hope everybody's okay," Vance said, before asking for his team's doctor from the stage. As police officers stood over the attendee and others flapped campaign posters to circulate air toward her, Vance told the crowd, "We'll all just stay calm and let these great doctors and law enforcement do their jobs." He then led the crowd in the Lord's Prayer and made his way toward the medical personnel.

USA Today reached out to the White House and the vice president's office for more information. Medical emergencies at campaign rallies are not uncommon, as attendees often stand for long periods. Vance headlined the Republican midterm campaign rally, which also included remarks by Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen and Senator Pete Ricketts, who is seeking reelection. Vance is scheduled to speak at rallies in Belgrade, Montana, and Topeka, Kansas, on Monday, October 26. (GSM, based on USA Today reporting)
