Lt. Gov. Stavros Anthony Announces Reelection Bid: Tourism, Data Centers and Voter ID Focus of Interview

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · States · GSM News

Nevada Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony said in an October 22 interview with FOX5 (KVVU)'s "Got a Minute?" program that he will seek reelection as lieutenant governor, adding that after another four years he would be termed out.

Anthony came to Las Vegas in 1980 to join the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, where he served 29 years as an officer, sergeant, lieutenant and captain. In 2009 he was elected to the Las Vegas City Council, serving three terms and serving as mayor pro tem; he was elected lieutenant governor four years ago. He also serves as president of the Nevada Senate and chairman of the Nevada Commission on Tourism.

Asked about a downturn in tourism, including a decline in Canadian visitors, Anthony said tourism numbers fluctuate and that he does not see federal policies, tariffs or statements about Canada as the cause; he pointed to competition from new tribal casinos and other U.S. travel destinations. He said Las Vegas has shifted from a family destination to the sports capital of the world. On data centers, he said the goal is for them to create construction and operational jobs without driving up housing energy prices for residents.

He said he supports voter identification requirements, noting the measure received more than 70% of the vote in the last election: "People, whether you're Republican, Democrat, or Independent, see voter ID as the best way to secure elections." He also discussed creating a task force to protect female athletes, the state's $25 billion outdoor recreation economy, and the elimination of 900 state regulations and unnecessary boards and commissions.
