The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) announced in an October 21 press release that a second suspect has been arrested in connection with a murder in Ten Mile, Roane County. On January 27, at the request of 9th Judicial District Attorney General Russell Johnson, TBI agents began investigating the death of 44-year-old Elton Richardson, whose body was found in the 4600 block of Decatur Highway in Ten Mile. During the investigation, officers identified 43-year-old Mitchel Crass as one of the individuals responsible for Richardson's death.

On Monday, a Roane County grand jury returned indictments charging Crass with one count of first-degree murder, one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit tampering with evidence. Crass was arrested on October 21 and booked into the Roane County Jail, with bond set at $865,000. The release stresses that the charges are merely accusations, not evidence, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty through due process of law.
