Early-Morning Fire Guts 4 of 6 Units in Anchorage Mountain View Apartment Building; No Injuries
A fire tore through an apartment building in Anchorage's Mountain View neighborhood in the early hours of October 21, destroying four of the building's six units. No one was injured.
Anchorage Fire Department spokesperson Megan Peters said crews were dispatched at about 12:23 a.m. to 838 Irwin Street. Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 1:02 a.m. Peters said no one was inside the building when it caught fire, and the cause remains under investigation.
KTUU (NBC 2, Anchorage) reported the fire on October 22; footage showed intense flames engulfing several units. The department has not released a cause or a damage estimate.
The building was vacant at the time, a factor that likely prevented casualties. The Anchorage Fire Department said investigators will examine the scene further to determine the fire's point of origin and cause.
