Two Canadian Residents of Idaho Charged With Illegal Voting in the 2022 General Election

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced on October 22 that, in a case the agency helped investigate, two Canadian residents of eastern Idaho have been charged with voting illegally in the 2022 general election, in cases brought by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Idaho.
According to court records, Taralynn Kathleen Bosco, 48, of Rexburg, is charged with participating in the 2022 general election without U.S. citizenship; Stanley Richard Walton, 82, of Chubbuck, is charged with the same offense in a separate case. The two cases are being tried separately in federal court, and the official announcement does not allege that the two conspired. USCIS emphasized in its announcement that an indictment is merely an allegation and that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court. If convicted of illegal voting, each faces a maximum penalty of a $100,000 fine and one year in prison. Federal law generally prohibits noncitizens from voting in elections that include federal offices. The investigation was conducted with USCIS assistance.
