Follow-Up: Asian Stocks Slide as Nikkei Falls 2%, Kospi Drops Over 4% and Alibaba Tumbles 6.5% in Hong Kong

Asian stocks fell broadly on Thursday, Reuters reported on October 22. The MSCI Asia-Pacific index excluding Japan dropped 1.8% to a near three-month low. Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 2%, South Korea's Kospi slid more than 4%, China's CSI 300 lost 2% and Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell more than 3%.
Heavyweight technology names led the declines. Tokyo Electron dropped more than 6%, while South Korean chipmakers SK hynix and Samsung Electronics fell 5.7% and 4.2%. Alibaba shares listed in Hong Kong tumbled 6.5%.
European and U.S. equity futures also pointed lower, with Euro Stoxx 50 futures down 0.9% and S&P 500 e-minis down 0.8%.
In energy markets, Brent crude futures rose more than 2% to $111.03 a barrel, while spot gold traded at $4,067.5 an ounce.
Kyle Rodda, a senior financial market analyst at Capital.com, said risk aversion had risen broadly and that the sell-off in technology shares was particularly brutal during the Asian session, with investors unwilling to step in before clearer signs of stabilization.
