Metal Object About 11 Feet Wide Found in Minnesota Cornfield; Sheriff's Office Calls It a Suspected Space Object, Origin Unconfirmed

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · Society · GSM News

A metal object about 11 feet (3.35 meters) in diameter has been found in a cornfield in Scott Township, Stevens County, Minnesota, according to USA Today and other outlets. The Stevens County Sheriff's Office received the report at about 3:30 p.m. on October 14 and said the following day that the object was "believed to be a space object."

The sheriff's office said the object bears a serial number, had been lying in the field for about six weeks, and posed no hazard, and that state and federal authorities are now involved. Sheriff Jason Dingman's office has not announced a definitive origin for the object.

Technology outlet Ars Technica has suggested the debris may be the upper stage of a LandSpace Zhuque-2E rocket, launched from Jiuquan on September 15 with 10 satellites, whose re-entry path crossed from Kansas toward Minnesota. LandSpace has not acknowledged the claim, and officials have not confirmed the object's origin.
