Chinese Woman's Body Found on Vasto Beach in Italy; Prosecutors Open Investigation, Autopsy Pending

VASTO, Italy — A case that has shaken the Chinese community in Italy: the body of a Chinese woman was found on a beach in the coastal town of Vasto, in the Abruzzo region. Prosecutors have opened an investigation, and the cause of death awaits an autopsy.
Local media reported the body was discovered during the night of October 20–21 on Vasto's northern beach. The woman was a Chinese national residing in nearby San Salvo, identified by local outlets only by the initials L.Y. Her family lost contact with her on the afternoon of October 20, and that evening her husband reported her missing to the Carabinieri station in San Salvo.
Shortly after midnight, officers of the Vasto police headquarters found the body on the beach. Emergency services (118), firefighters and scientific police responded to the scene. The Vasto prosecutor's office has opened a case under duty prosecutor Silvia Di Nunzio and ordered an autopsy; the body was transferred to the hospital in Chieti.
The cause of death remains under investigation. Local media, citing investigators, report that no hypothesis is being excluded at this stage. Local outlets differ on the woman's reported age; this article omits the disputed figure pending the prosecutors' and autopsy findings.
