Houthi Attacks Kill Two at Dammam Airport and Two More at an Oil Field: U.S. Orders Some Diplomats Out of Saudi Arabia

Dammam: Fresh attacks by Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi movement on Saudi Arabia have killed and wounded multiple people. An attack on a civilian airport in the eastern city of Dammam killed two people and injured eight; a drone strike on an oil field killed two more. The U.S. State Department has ordered some diplomats and family members to leave its missions in Saudi Arabia, and plans to pull family members from several other U.S. missions in the region, U.S. officials told Reuters.
Saudi Arabia answered the attacks with strikes on missile launcher sites, vowed to protect the kingdom, and said it has intercepted many of the group's ballistic missiles. Major Gulf stock markets fell in early trade Thursday on fears of broader escalation: Saudi Arabia's benchmark index fell 1.2%, Saudi National Bank slid 1.9% and oil giant Saudi Aramco lost 0.5%; Dubai's index dropped 0.8%, Abu Dhabi's lost 0.5% and Qatar's retreated 0.8%.
Tensions also rose in the northern Gulf, where Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said four vessels involved in illegal oil transfers were hit simultaneously and caught fire after its forces tracked them on Wednesday. (GSM, reporting from Reuters)
