Two MS-13 Members Indicted for Stabbing Death of a Teen in Hempstead, Arraigned in Federal Court on Long Island

New York: The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York announced on October 22 that two members of the transnational criminal organization MS-13 were arraigned that afternoon in federal court in Central Islip. The indictment charges them with racketeering conspiracy and related firearms and narcotics offenses, in connection with a conspiracy to kill rival gang members, the June 28, 2026 murder of Michael David Grajeda Suazo in Hempstead, and a narcotics trafficking conspiracy. The indictment was unsealed on October 20; both defendants had been in state custody on murder charges.
The defendants are Isaac Eliseo Lopez Alvarez, 20, also known as "Flaco" and "Kofla," and Denis Alexander Gonzalez Sorto, 22, also known as "Demon," "Demon Boy" and "DM." Both are from Hempstead and are members of the Hempstead Locos Salvatruchas clique of MS-13.
As alleged, MS-13 targeted Grajeda Suazo, suspecting him of being a member of the rival 18th Street gang, in retaliation for several prior attacks on MS-13 members. In the weeks before the murder, the defendants discussed plans to identify, locate and kill suspected 18th Street members and surveilled Grajeda Suazo. On the evening of June 28, as Grajeda Suazo walked with two others on Fulton Avenue, the defendants and a third MS-13 member rode their bikes ahead of him, dismounted and waited; as he passed, Gonzalez Sorto stabbed him numerous times in the chest while Lopez Alvarez and the third member kicked and stomped him as he lay mortally wounded, before all three fled on bicycle.
The indictment also charges the pair with conspiring to distribute cocaine and marijuana and with being aliens in possession of a firearm, after a 9mm P80 "ghost gun" was recovered from a Hempstead bedroom they shared. U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella, Jr. said the defendants carried out a planned and savage killing in furtherance of MS-13. The charges are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty; if convicted, each faces up to life in prison, or the possibility of the death penalty.
