Thursday, October 22, 2026 · Performance · GSM News

Artist Nick Cave's large-scale live performance "Mammoth" will take over the Kogod Courtyard of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., for one day only on Saturday, October 24, with two performances at 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., each running about 45 minutes.

In the performance, Cave animates his herd of mammoth sculptures through sound and movement, with an original score and live music led by Kahil El'Zabar alongside local musicians and collaborators. The piece is presented with Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company and grows out of the museum's current exhibition "Nick Cave: Mammoth."

Admission is free (tickets are $0), but advance registration on the museum's website is required, and seating is first-come, first-served. The museum is at 8th and G Streets NW, Washington, DC.
