Thursday, October 22, 2026 · Events · GSM News

The Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History will host an African safari family program on Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET, in Q?rius, the Coralyn W. Whitney Science Education Center on the museum's ground floor, presented with WETA PBS Kids and the Smithsonian's National Zoo.

The program features a screening of "Sesame Street and the Great Elephant Adventure," the show's first-ever safari story, following the characters from an elephant sanctuary into the African bush, where they encounter lions, zebras, giraffes and hippos. Elmo will appear in person for photos, and families can explore activity stations, observe specimens from the museum's collections and join safari-inspired art-making. Visitors are asked to enter through the Constitution Avenue entrance.

Cost: the organizer's event page lists no fee; admission details are as announced by the organizer.
