Tzu Chi USA Holds Earthquake Preparedness Drill: National Headquarters Staff in San Dimas Practice Drop, Cover and Hold On for International ShakeOut Day
Tzu Chi USA reported that on October 15, International ShakeOut Day, staff at its National Headquarters in San Dimas, California, gathered for an earthquake preparedness drill. Staff practiced "Drop, Cover, and Hold On," evacuated safely to designated areas, and learned fire extinguisher techniques and basic first aid through hands-on training.
The exercise also highlighted how Tzu Chi's satellite communication network and solar power systems support emergency communications and help mobilize disaster relief efforts, the organization said.
Tzu Chi USA is the U.S. branch of the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, headquartered in San Dimas, and carries out charitable, medical, educational and disaster relief work. International ShakeOut Day is an annual global earthquake drill held each October, and California's Great ShakeOut drills take place during the same period.
