Tom Cruise to Receive 52nd AFI Life Achievement Award: Gala Set for April 24, 2027 in Hollywood

The American Film Institute (AFI) has announced that actor and producer Tom Cruise will receive the 52nd AFI Life Achievement Award. The gala tribute will be held on April 24, 2027, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, with proceeds benefiting AFI's arts and education programs. AFI describes the award as its highest honor for a career in film.
Kathleen Kennedy, chair of the AFI Board of Trustees, said Tom Cruise is a global icon who, as an actor and producer, brings an extraordinary commitment to everything he does, and that his deep belief in movies and their ability to bring people together has made him an extraordinary ambassador for American film around the world.
According to AFI, films starring Cruise have grossed nearly $13 billion at the worldwide box office. He has received four Academy Award nominations: best actor for Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire, best supporting actor for Magnolia, and best picture as a producer of Top Gun: Maverick. In 2025 he received an honorary Academy Award. The previous honoree was Eddie Murphy, who received the award in 2026.
