Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos Elected Chair of AFI Board of Directors, Succeeding Bob Daly After 17 Years

The American Film Institute (AFI) announced on Oct. 22 that Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has been elected chair of its board of directors, effective immediately, succeeding Bob Daly, who held the role for 17 years. Sarandos was elected by a vote of acclamation.
"Ted Sarandos is one of the world's most dynamic industry executives and a passionate movie lover," Daly said. "It's my honor to hand him the gavel to lead AFI into an even greater future." Sarandos said he was honored to carry on stewardship of an organization that celebrates film and television arts, calling Daly a lifelong cheerleader and inspirational leader for the industry.
Sarandos has overseen all content operations at Netflix since 2000, led the company's push into original programming in 2013 with series such as "House of Cards," and has served as co-CEO since July 2020. Founded in 1967, AFI works to preserve motion picture heritage, honor artists and train the next generation of storytellers.
