Texas Governor Abbott Praises Arrest in Alleged Terror Plot Against Rep. Keith Self

A 17-year-old boy from McKinney, a city in Collin County, Texas, has been arrested by federal law enforcement on allegations that he plotted to assassinate U.S. Representative Keith Self and to carry out a terrorist attack in North Texas on behalf of the Islamic State group, ISIS. Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Oct. 22 issued a statement praising law enforcement for the arrest.
According to WFAA, citing federal law enforcement sources, the teenager had recently been radicalized by ISIS material online and was being monitored by federal agents; he was arrested on Oct. 5 after he acquired a firearm. The juvenile, whose name has not been released, remains in federal custody, and federal prosecutors are weighing whether to seek adult charges. The alleged plot reportedly targeted a public appearance by Self in McKinney on Oct. 17, along with a separate planned attack in North Texas.
Self, who represents Texas's 3rd Congressional District and co-founded the Sharia-Free America Caucus, wrote on X: "I am grateful to the FBI and law enforcement for stopping this threat. My family and I are safe, and I remain focused on serving the people of Texas' 3rd District." He added: "Preserving our constitutional republic from radical Islam means accepting the costs that come with it - name-calling, threats, and worse. This only strengthens my resolve. I will not back down."
The governor's office titled its release "Governor Abbott Praises Law Enforcement Arrest In Islamic Terror Plot Against Congressman Self." Abbott said the Texas Department of Public Safety will continue working with federal law enforcement.
