Philadelphia's Chinatown community in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, is receiving state community revitalization funding. State Representative Mary Isaacson announced on October 22 that $1,369,200 will be invested through the Neighborhood Assistance Program in community revitalization projects in her district, including two awards to the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation: $95,000 to strengthen Chinatown through corridor planning, business support and cultural programming, and $18,000 to upgrade the outdated HVAC system at a two-unit affordable rental duplex. The program uses tax credits to encourage businesses to contribute to eligible community projects, with businesses able to receive tax credits of up to 95 percent; project categories include affordable housing, community services, crime prevention, education, job training and neighborhood assistance. The same round of funding also benefits other Philadelphia community organizations, including funding for financial and housing stability for low-income residents, English learning and entrepreneurship support for new Pennsylvanians, and affordable housing projects. For Chinatown, the funding will go directly to planning for the Chinatown business corridor, support for merchants and local cultural programming, helping Chinatown improve its business environment while preserving its cultural character. The Chinatown Development Corporation is the community's longstanding development organization, advancing Chinatown's business, cultural and community development.
