New Jersey: Governor Launches Supercomputer Initiative Backed by Over $125 Million

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · States · GSM News

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill on October 20 launched the New Jersey Supercomputer Initiative at the New Jersey Innovation Hub in New Brunswick, backed by more than $125 million in public and private investment.

Sherrill joined representatives of NVIDIA, SHI International, higher-education institutions and state agencies for a roundtable at the announcement. According to the governor's office, the initiative is expected to double the aggregate supercomputing capacity across New Jersey's research universities.

The expanded capacity will support work including cancer research and flood-risk mapping. The governor's office said the effort is intended to strengthen the state's position in super intelligence and high-performance computing and give university researchers greater computing resources.
