New Mexico: Health Department Reports Alcohol-Related Deaths Rose 2.6% in 2025

The New Mexico Department of Health reported on October 20 that alcohol-related deaths in the state rose 2.6% between 2024 and 2025, reversing part of an earlier decline; alcohol-related deaths had fallen 21% from 2021 to 2024.
The figures were released during Sober October. Rebecca Neudecker of the department's Office of Alcohol Misuse Prevention said the latest numbers are a reminder that alcohol harm remains serious and prevention work cannot let up.
The department is promoting its Drink Less, Live More campaign, which shares information on cutting back drinking and finding support. The release did not give an absolute count of alcohol-related deaths for 2025.
