Tennessee: Governor Lee Calls Special Session to Review Congressional Map

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced this week that he will call the General Assembly into special session to review the redrawing of the state's congressional districts, following a U.S. Supreme Court decision holding that race should not be used to dictate how district lines are drawn.
In a statement, Lee said: We owe it to Tennesseans to ensure our congressional districts accurately reflect the will of Tennessee voters. He said that after consultation with the lieutenant governor, the House speaker, the attorney general and the secretary of state, he believes the legislature has a responsibility to review the map and ensure it remains fair, legal and defensible.
U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee this week presented a new proposed map; analyses suggest it could change the partisan makeup of the state's U.S. House delegation. The special session's agenda and voting schedule are to be announced by the legislature.
