eBay to Cut About 1,000 Jobs in Second Round of Layoffs This Year

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · Technology · GSM News

E-commerce platform eBay, based in Santa Clara County, California, has announced it will cut about 1,000 jobs, roughly 9% of its workforce. eBay is headquartered in San Jose, and this is the company's second round of layoffs this year.

According to Reuters, eBay CEO Jamie Iannone told staff in a memo that the company's strategy is working, but that continuing to capture the significant opportunity ahead requires the company to make thoughtful choices about where it focuses and invests. The memo did not say which departments or locations the cuts would affect.

In February, eBay cut about 800 jobs, roughly 6% of its workforce at the time, in a move to streamline operations. The two rounds total about 1,800 positions. eBay had about 12,300 employees at the end of last year.

Founded in 1995, eBay is one of Silicon Valley's oldest e-commerce companies. The announcement comes as tech employers across the Valley keep restructuring their workforces: game maker Electronic Arts said on October 21 that it would cut about 400 jobs worldwide and close its BioWare studio in Edmonton.
