Pew Survey: One in Five U.S. Adults Regularly Get News on TikTok, Rising to 39% Among Ages 18 to 29

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · Society · GSM News

A survey released October 19 by the Pew Research Center found that 20% of U.S. adults now regularly get news on the short-video platform TikTok. The share is unchanged from 2025 but up sharply from 3% in 2020.

Among TikTok users, 53% say they regularly get news on the platform. The generational gap is wide: 39% of adults ages 18 to 29 regularly get news on TikTok, compared with just 4% of those 65 and older.

The survey was conducted August 24-30, 2026, among 5,166 U.S. adults, as part of Pew's ongoing research on social media and news consumption.
