Trump Speaks at Sioux City, Iowa Rally: Says Iran Will Be Finished Soon and Claims a Right to Run Again in 2028

President Donald Trump spoke at a rally on the evening of October 22 in a hangar at Sioux Gateway Airport in Sioux City, Iowa, campaigning for Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. He appeared alongside Iowa statewide candidates, including U.S. Senate nominee Ashley Hinson.
According to the Des Moines Register, Trump told the crowd, "Pretend I'm on the ballot," and said, "I love this place. I know you're not all farmers, but I love farmers."
According to CNN, Trump said of Iran: "We're going to have Iran finished very soon. One way or the other — it's almost insignificant to me which way — but one way or the other, it's going to be done very soon, and your gasoline prices and your oil is going to come tumbling down." At the rally he also announced that his administration is using the Defense Production Act to release $150 million to increase American refining capacity for diesel and gasoline; according to the New York Post, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the funds would be used in partnership with private industry to bolster existing energy infrastructure.
On the 2028 election, Trump first conceded that the wording of the 22nd Amendment appeared to leave him little room, then said, according to reports, "I think I have the right to run again because they cheated." The 22nd Amendment bars any person from being elected president more than twice. Trump won in 2016, lost in 2020 and returned to office in 2024. His claim that the 2020 election was stolen has been rejected by federal courts, state election officials and his own Department of Justice, none of which found evidence of fraud on the scale he alleged.
Earlier that day, asked before departing the White House whether he would back Vice President JD Vance for 2028, Trump said he had not given the matter any thought and that there was time enough to come.
