ANKARA — Canada and Türkiye formally launched a strategic partnership in Ankara on October 22, the Canadian government announced. Prime Minister Mark Carney and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan set a three-year action plan covering trade and innovation, energy and climate, defence and security, and people-to-people ties.

On the same day, Canadian Energy Minister Tim Hodgson and Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar issued a joint statement on energy cooperation, pledging closer collaboration on energy security and transition.

Ottawa said Türkiye is an important partner for Canada in regional and global affairs, and that the new partnership aims to expand bilateral trade and investment while deepening coordination within NATO and multilateral institutions. The three-year action plan will set out concrete steps for cooperation in each area.
