Indonesia's President Prabowo Launches National Financial Welfare Council With Large Rural Lending Goal

Friday, October 23, 2026 · World News · GSM News

JAKARTA — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced the creation of the National Financial Welfare Council (DNKK) at the TPAKD national coordination meeting at JIExpo in Jakarta on October 22. Established under Government Regulation No. 42/2026, the council will be chaired by Prabowo himself, with Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto as executive chair.

Prabowo set a goal of extending 4,000 trillion rupiah in loans to farmers, fishers and rural communities, saying inclusive finance must genuinely reach the grassroots and narrow the urban–rural gap in financial services. The new council will coordinate financial-inclusion policies across ministries.

He also reported progress on state-owned enterprise consolidation: the number of SOEs has been cut from 1,074 to about 364, with a target of 700 closures or mergers in total by December, aimed at improving efficiency and governance.
