Malaysia's SDG Achievement Outlook Rises to 58% by 2030, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Says

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia is now projected to achieve 58% of its Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets by 2030, up from the 49% projection reported a year ago, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on October 22. The improved outlook was presented at the 2026 National SDG Council Meeting, which he chaired that morning to review implementation progress nationwide.
The nine-percentage-point rise builds on last year's council meeting, at which Anwar noted that Malaysia's projected 49% achievement rate was already far above the global average of around 18%.
Anwar cautioned that much work remains, particularly on child malnutrition, mental health, the management of students with special needs and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities. He stressed that progress requires cooperation across federal and state governments, the private sector and civil society so that no one is left behind.
