Dutch Consumer Confidence Falls to -34 in October, Statistics Netherlands Says

THE HAGUE — Consumer confidence in the Netherlands fell to -34 in October from -33 in September, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported on October 22, indicating a slightly more pessimistic view of the economic outlook among households.
Among the components, the economic climate index stood at -59 and willingness to buy at -18, both well below the twenty-year average of -12. The CBS consumer confidence survey is conducted monthly and combines respondents' assessments of the general economic situation and their own financial position.
As one of the euro zone's major economies, the Netherlands' consumer sentiment is watched as a gauge of European domestic demand. Analysts are looking at whether Dutch household spending appetite can recover during the year-end shopping season amid the current inflation and interest-rate environment.
