A forum for Delaware's U.S. Senate candidates was held on Thursday, October 22, in the Gold Ballroom of the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, where Democratic incumbent Senator Chris Coons and Republican challenger Dr. Mike Katz presented their platforms side by side.

The roughly hour-long discussion, hosted by the Rotary Club of Wilmington and moderated by Jack Owens of Spotlight Delaware, focused on federal spending, health care costs and foreign policy, and took place on the day early voting opened for the state's November 3 general election. Coons emphasized his 16 years in the Senate and his bipartisan legislative record, saying his campaign centers on three priorities — "opportunity, security, justice" — helping people improve their lives, protecting families and the future, and bridging political divisions and abuses of power, and said he is willing to challenge President Trump's policies.

Katz, a physician, former state senator and business executive, described the election as a "performance review" of the incumbent and a "job interview" for the challenger, arguing for a change and stressing fiscal responsibility, government efficiency and solving long-term problems. Both men pledged bipartisan cooperation but differ sharply on how to handle the major federal issues.
