USDA Awards $600,000 to Repair Rural Homes in North Carolina, Benefiting 55 Low-Income Households

USDA Rural Development announced on October 22, 2026, that North Carolina will receive a total of $600,000 in Housing Preservation Grants for eight projects in the state's rural areas, helping very low- and low-income residents repair and rehabilitate their homes, with 55 households expected to benefit.
Robert Hosford, the agency's state operations director in North Carolina, said in the announcement released in Raleigh on October 21 that safe, affordable housing is the starting point for strong rural communities, and that the investment will help North Carolina families complete critical repairs and improve living conditions.
Nationally, Rural Development invested nearly $8 million through 106 grants in 32 states in this round, expected to repair about 1,228 homes, with recipient organizations providing more than $7.55 million in additional partner funding. The grants are delivered through eligible nonprofit organizations to help low-income homeowners repair their own homes and to rehabilitate qualifying rural rental housing.
