Ayotte and Warmington Clash in Second New Hampshire Gubernatorial Debate; RGA Backs Incumbent

New Hampshire's gubernatorial race held its second debate on October 22, pitting incumbent Republican Governor Kelly Ayotte against Democratic candidate Cinde Warmington. The Republican Governors Association (RGA) issued a statement after the debate backing Ayotte and attacking Warmington.
RGA communications director Colin Crompton said in the statement that Warmington is trying to rewrite her record, but voters in the state know she would be a "disaster" as governor. The statement noted that Warmington once lobbied for Purdue Pharma and called OxyContin a "wonder drug," and now pushes an agenda that would raise living costs for New Hampshire families. It also said Ayotte has put New Hampshire first over the past two years, keeping taxes low, expanding housing supply and keeping communities safe.
As GSM reported earlier, Warmington recently received the endorsement of former Vice President Kamala Harris, while Ayotte is seeking re-election. With less than two weeks to the November 3 election, the governor's race — together with the same-day contest for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen — has drawn national attention to New Hampshire. After the debate, both campaigns are expected to focus on state issues such as taxes, housing costs and the opioid crisis.
