Clark County Assessment Puts Renovation of Vacant New Orleans Square at Over $20 Million

Friday, October 23, 2026 · States · GSM News

An assessment released by Clark County, Nevada, on Thursday, October 22, shows that repairing New Orleans Square — a long-vacant commercial complex on Liberace Avenue in Las Vegas — would cost more than $20 million, and a more comprehensive renovation could push the bill past $25 million.

According to Las Vegas Focal News' October 22 report, the county bought the property in 2024 for $6.5 million. Its four buildings date to 1975 and do not meet current building codes, which has prevented the county from leasing the vacant space. The assessment lists needed repairs including the roof, electrical systems, sewer lines, stairways and drainage; county documents do not yet set a final renovation plan. At a city council meeting, nearby residents urged officials to fix the complex rather than demolish it. One resident said a renovation would bring more foot traffic to the property and energize the whole commercial center; another warned that after demolition the lot could sit empty for decades, doing nothing to help surrounding businesses recover.

The county's final decision will determine the aging property's fate — an expensive repair or a teardown and rebuild — and residents also worry about what would replace it. The report gave no timeline for the county's decision.
