Niagara Power Transformer Breaks Ground on Expansion of More Than $71 Million, Raising Capacity by 50 Percent

On October 22, 2026, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that Niagara Power Transformer's expansion project, an investment of more than $71 million, has broken ground.
According to the governor's office news release issued the same day, once complete the expansion will increase the company's production capacity by 50 percent, support nearly 220 jobs, and help strengthen the domestic U.S. supply of critical grid equipment. Transformers are core equipment in grid modernization, and domestic supply has remained tight in recent years as electricity demand grows and aging equipment is replaced.
The state said the expansion in New York both grows domestic manufacturing capacity and brings manufacturing jobs to the area. Hochul announced several other economic and infrastructure items the same day, including $200 million for water infrastructure. The company did not disclose a specific production timeline for the expansion in the governor's office release.
