A Veteran Detective and a Former Mob Thief Share the Stage at URI's "Cat and Mouse" Forensics Lecture on October 23

From 3:30 to 5 p.m. on October 23, 2026, the University of Rhode Island will host a special lecture, "Cat and Mouse," in Room 100 of the Richard Beaupre Center for Chemical and Forensic Sciences on its Kingston campus. The speakers are two former adversaries: Brian Andrews, who led the Rhode Island State Police detective division during the height of New England's drug and mob conflicts in the 1970s and 1980s, and Anthony "Tony" Fiore, a former mob associate whom Andrews investigated repeatedly.

In an October 22 announcement, URI said the lecture is part of its fall Forensic Science Partnership lecture series; it is offered for academic credit, is free and open to the public, and will be livestreamed. During his state police career, Andrews helped investigate a mob crew behind millions of dollars in precious-metal thefts and pushed for the groundbreaking wiretap that exposed the crew. Fiore was active around Providence in the 1970s, specializing in high-value thefts and armored car robberies, and served 17 years in federal prison for an armored car robbery. The two have previously appeared together on a podcast to recount those years.
