American country singer Kacey Musgraves announced on October 22 that she will release a new album, Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes, on January 15, 2027, through Lost Highway Records. The 16-track collection is a companion to Middle of Nowhere, released in May, and further explores the musical and cultural ties between Texas and Mexico, with 11 original songs, five covers and four tracks sung entirely in Spanish.

Listeners will not have to wait until January for a first taste. Two songs from the album, "Weekend In Texas" and her rendition of the Norteño classic "Mi Tesoro," are set for release at midnight on October 23. The album also includes a Spanish-language version of "Uncertain, TX" featuring Mexican group Intocable, "Tú Solo Tú" recorded live in Mexico City with Mariachi Oro De América, a cover of George Strait's "All My Exes Live in Texas" titled "All My Exes (Kacey's Version)," and a rendition of Freddy Fender's "Before the Next Teardrop Falls."

According to the label, the new set expands on the first album's themes of solitude, contentment and finding beauty in the in-between. Earlier this year, Musgraves said of this creative period: "I became so at ease with being in the 'middle of nowhere' in many senses and sitting in the un-comfort of the undefined."

The full track listing is: 1. Pretty Horses; 2. Weekend In Texas; 3. Hard Conversations; 4. Denim On Denim; 5. Figure Out My Life; 6. Caballero; 7. The Vacation Song; 8. (Hey Baby) Qué Pasó?; 9. Uncertain, TX (Spanish version, feat. Intocable); 10. Mi Tesoro; 11. Rodeo; 12. Tú Solo Tú (feat. Mariachi Oro De América, Live in Mexico City); 13. All My Exes (Kacey's Version); 14. Desert Eyes; 15. Pity Party; 16. Before the Next Teardrop Falls.

Musgraves is currently winding down her North American arena tour in support of Middle of Nowhere, which played Oakland on October 22 and wraps October 26–27 in Seattle. She heads into the 60th CMA Awards, to be broadcast live from Nashville on November 18, with five nominations, including Album of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year for "Dry Spell," and Musical Event of the Year for "Horses and Divorces" with Miranda Lambert.
