The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on October 23 classified the recall of Miyoko's Creamery European Style Salted Plant Milk Butter as a Class II recall, citing yeast, mold and E. coli. The recall covers 1,304 cases and was voluntarily initiated by Prosperity Organic Foods Inc. of Boise, Idaho. A Class II classification means consuming the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, while the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.

The recalled product is Miyoko's Creamery European Style Salted Plant Milk Butter, net weight 8 ounces (227 grams), UPC 857554005773, package lot 07871 (shipping case lot 1007871), with a best-by date of November 5, 2026. FDA records show it was distributed in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Wisconsin, and it was sold at grocers including Sprouts, Wegmans and Raley's.

According to a recall notice posted by Sprouts on September 14, the issue was discovered through testing by the manufacturer. The company has said all potentially affected products have since been fully removed from store shelves. None of the recall notices mentions any illness reported in connection with the product.

Consumers who have this butter at home should check the UPC, lot number and best-by date on the package. Affected product should not be eaten; it can be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for a full refund. Anyone who develops symptoms of foodborne illness, such as diarrhea, stomach cramps or vomiting, after eating it should contact a healthcare provider.
