Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston Posts $66.4 Million in Third-Quarter Net Income, Declares 6.72% Dividend

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston announced its preliminary, unaudited third-quarter 2026 financial results on October 23, reporting net income of $66.4 million for the quarter, a modest increase from $66.0 million in the third quarter of 2025. Net interest income after provision for credit losses was $101.7 million, compared with $100.9 million a year earlier, and the net interest spread was 0.34%, up seven basis points. The bank expects to file its quarterly report on Form 10-Q for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission next month.
President and CEO Timothy J. Barrett said third-quarter earnings remained steady, supported by higher net interest income, and that the bank's strong balance sheet positions it well to meet members' evolving liquidity needs. The bank set aside nearly $10 million during the quarter for its affordable housing and community development programs: $7.7 million for the Affordable Housing Program, including a $7.5 million statutory assessment and a $239,000 voluntary contribution, plus $2.2 million for discretionary housing and community investment programs.
Total assets rose to $70.3 billion at September 30, 2026, from $68.8 billion at year-end 2025. Advances totaled $38.9 billion, investments were $26.2 billion, and mortgage loans increased $432.3 million since year-end 2025 to $4.7 billion. Total capital was $3.8 billion, the bank was in compliance with all regulatory capital ratios, and it is classified as "adequately capitalized" based on information as of June 30, 2026.
The board declared a dividend equal to an annual yield of 6.72%, based on average stock outstanding for the third quarter, to be paid on November 3, 2026. The Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston is a cooperatively owned wholesale bank for housing finance in the six New England states, providing wholesale funding and liquidity to member financial institutions and supporting housing finance, community development, and economic growth, including programs targeted to lower-income households.
