Colton Police Recover 350 Boxes of Stolen Hot Wheels Worth $54,000 After Train Burglary

Police in Colton, a city in San Bernardino County, California, broke up a freight-train theft and recovered 350 boxes of stolen Hot Wheels toy cars valued at about $54,000, arresting one suspect. The Colton Police Department posted body-camera video and photos of the recovered merchandise on social media, writing, "We derailed his plans!"
According to FOX 11 Los Angeles (FOXLA) and the New York Post, at about 3 a.m. on October 22 a caller reported that people were robbing a train at the end of Maple Street. In 911 audio released by the department, the caller said, "Yeah, they're robbing the trains down here." An officer wearing a body camera positioned himself near South 7th Street and South La Cadena Drive, reported hearing boxes being loaded, and saw a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup pull away from the rail line.
The officer caught up with the pickup and pulled it over; the driver stepped out with his hands on his head and was taken into custody. Police recovered 350 boxes of Hot Wheels cars from the truck, each box containing multiple toy vehicles, and investigators estimated the merchandise at $54,000. The man was booked into the West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, and grand theft. Police have not released his name.
Colton sits in southwestern San Bernardino County on a major Southern California rail and logistics corridor, where freight-train and container theft has been a recurring caseload for local police in recent years. The case remains under investigation.
