EU Trade Ministers Meet Informally at Dublin Castle With EU-China Trade Dialogue at the Top of the Agenda

Trade ministers from the European Union's 27 member states held an informal meeting on October 22 and 23 at Dublin Castle in Ireland's capital, with the first working session on October 23 focused on the EU's trade dialogue with China. Ireland's trade minister, Helen McEntee, chaired the meeting.
EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič briefed ministers on the preliminary political agreement reached at the Trade and Investment Dialogue held in Beijing on October 9. EU leaders have asked the European Commission to propose new trade defence instruments; a package dubbed "diversifyEU" could be presented in December, and safeguard measures may be extended to sectors such as plastics.
Canada's trade minister, Maninder Sidhu, also attended ahead of the EU-Canada summit set for October 29 and 30. This report is based on Agence Europe's October 23 coverage.
