American Red Cross Responds to Colorado Flooding With Evacuation Center and Shelters in Archuleta County

After flash flooding began on October 22 in Colorado's Archuleta and La Plata counties, the American Red Cross has moved into the disaster area, opening an evacuation center at the Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association Clubhouse and shelters in the affected area that provide food, water and medical support for evacuees, with space for pets. Colorado's governor has declared a disaster emergency over the flooding.
Evacuations were ordered along four rivers: the San Juan, Rio Blanco, Navajo and Piedra. Forecasters expect the San Juan River to crest at 13.82 feet on Friday morning, above last year's flood level.
The Red Cross published a list of items residents should bring when evacuating, including prescription medications, changes of clothes, blankets, hygiene items, important documents and children's supplies, and said it will adjust service locations as conditions change.
