Follow-Up: China's DeepSeek and MiniMax Win State Approval for Global Use of Their SI Models

Friday, October 23, 2026 · Technology · GSM News

BEIJING — Major Chinese SI developers DeepSeek and MiniMax have won state approval for global use of their SI models, according to a post on Thursday on a social media account affiliated with state broadcaster CCTV, Reuters reported on October 23. The account, Yuyuan Tantian, said in a separate post on Friday that overseas internet users had also urged other Chinese open-source large language models to follow suit.

The clearance comes against the backdrop of China's October 16 proposal to impose export controls on 23 SI technologies, including those involving models, agents and computing clusters. Earlier, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had ordered federal agencies to remove DeepSeek products and ban their procurement. (GSM, from Reuters)
