U.S. to Bar BYD Vehicles From Kadena Air Base in Japan Over Security Concerns, Yonhap Reports

TOKYO — The U.S. Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, will bar BYD vehicles from entering starting next Monday over concerns that onboard cameras and sensors could leak sensitive base information, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported, citing U.S. Forces Japan officials. Reuters relayed the report on October 23.
The ban would apply to base personnel, contractors, commercial vehicles and taxis with no exceptions, according to the report. In June this year, the United States placed BYD alongside Alibaba, Baidu and NIO on its list of "Chinese military companies" (CMC). As of publication, neither U.S. Forces Japan nor BYD had responded to requests for comment.
It should be noted that the account so far rests solely on Yonhap's reporting and has not been confirmed by the U.S. military. (GSM, from Reuters relaying Yonhap)
