The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles will open 'Hidden Worlds: The Films of LAIKA' on December 12, running through September 9, 2027. The exhibition highlights the handcrafted stop-motion filmmaking of LAIKA, whose films include 'Coraline' (2009), 'ParaNorman' (2012) and 'Missing Link' (2019). LAIKA's newest feature, 'Wildwood,' opened in North American theaters on October 23.

The museum's fall lineup also includes 'The Horror Show,' a six-gallery exhibition tracing a century of cinematic scares and screen monsters, including 'Dracula' (1931), 'Alien' (1979), 'Ju-on' (1998) and 'Get Out' (2017), on view through July 25, 2027. A John Carpenter retrospective, 'Prince of Darkness,' runs from September 26 to October 25 with early works such as 'Dark Star' and the student film 'Captain Voyeur' (October 22) and hits including 'Christine' (October 25). On October 24 the museum hosts its 'Monster Mash' special event.

Elsewhere in Los Angeles this fall, the California Science Center opens the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center as the new home of the space shuttle Endeavour, and both LACMA and the Getty Center are presenting new exhibitions on the life and work of Los Angeles architect Paul R. Williams.
