John Legend Releases 'Muse' on October 23: A 16-Track Album Produced in Full by Pharrell Williams

John Legend's new album 'Muse' was released on October 23 through Republic Records, arriving on streaming platforms alongside CD and vinyl editions. It is Legend's 11th studio album and the first full-length project produced entirely by Pharrell Williams, who also serves as co-writer — the pair's first complete collaboration in more than 20 years of friendship. The 16-track set was preceded by the singles 'Daylight' and 'Fireflies,' the latter written by and featuring Williams, whose Paul Hunter-directed video arrived on September 25.
According to the label, the project began after Legend's vocal on 'The Birds Don't Sing' from Clipse's comeback album 'Let God Sort Em Out' prompted Williams to build an album around his voice. The two wrote and recorded beginning in January 2025 at Williams's studio at Louis Vuitton headquarters in Paris. Legend said he wanted to shake up his piano-ballad formula and 'do something fresh and new,' and recorded several songs written entirely by Williams, something he said he almost never does.
Tracks include the title song 'Muse,' 'Pray For Ya,' 'Her,' 'Get Back,' 'Are You OK?,' 'Bodies on the Floor,' featuring Clipse, and the closing 'Sail Off.' The album weaves together gospel, doo-wop, soul, standards, Afrobeat and hip-hop with orchestral arrangements over a modern backbeat — a concept Legend described as a cinematic 'Black James Bond aesthetic.' 'Pray For Ya' was previously featured in Louis Vuitton's Fall-Winter 2026 men's show.
