Presidential Message Marks National Breast Cancer Awareness Month: More Than 380,000 U.S. Women Expected to Be Diagnosed This Year

During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the White House issued a presidential message. The message said the United States has four million breast cancer survivors, and that this year more than 380,000 women in the United States will receive a breast cancer diagnosis, while approximately 40,000 lives will be lost to the disease.
The message said that thanks to medical breakthroughs, increased public awareness, and early detection, survival rates have drastically improved. It said the administration, through its Make America Healthy Again mission, is committed to conquering chronic illness and advancing cutting-edge research, treatment options, and innovative therapies to enhance the quality of life for patients battling breast cancer and other diseases.
In the message, the President and the First Lady encouraged every person to know their family medical history and risk factors and to become an advocate for their own health. The message expressed support for those currently fighting the disease and honored the memory of family members and friends lost to breast cancer. October is observed each year in the United States as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when federal agencies and organizations carry out breast cancer awareness activities.
