HUD Secretary to Co-Chair Task Force on Manufactured Housing Innovation: Executive Order Calls for Modernized Standards and Faster Approvals

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced on October 22 that, following President Donald J. Trump's signing of an executive order, HUD Secretary Scott Turner will co-chair the newly established Task Force on Manufactured Housing Innovation.

According to HUD, the executive order, titled Decreasing Housing Costs for the American People, established the task force to create a whole-of-government approach to modernizing federal housing programs to accommodate innovations in manufactured housing. The task force will work to modernize standards and codes to safely speed up certifications and approvals across government, and to provide an alternative pathway and clear regulatory guidance while ensuring quality housing supply. The task force is co-chaired by the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and includes the Secretary of Agriculture, the Secretary of Commerce, and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Secretary Turner said in a statement that President Trump is a builder who is committing to bring more innovative and affordable housing solutions to market for the American people, and that for decades home building has been crippled by regulatory red tape, while the task force can usher in the next generation of housing by modernizing standards and speeding up approvals across government. HUD said it has previously showcased how innovation can help increase housing supply and unlock the goal of homeownership for more Americans.
