Ohio Dedicates $20 Million Search and Rescue Building at State Fire Academy in Reynoldsburg

Friday, October 23, 2026 · States · GSM News

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon have dedicated a new Search and Rescue Building at the Ohio Fire Academy in Reynoldsburg. The $20 million, 18,000-square-foot facility includes a five-story interior training tower and an eight-story exterior tower, giving firefighter and EMS students a controlled, realistic environment for high-rise and technical rescue scenarios.

The Division of State Fire Marshal says the building will train about 8,000 firefighters and EMS providers a year. DeWine said Ohio is committed to ensuring its firefighters and EMS providers have access to the best training and equipment in the nation. Reardon said the building sets a new standard for technical rescue training.

On the same day, 32 cadets from Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana graduated from the academy's Firefighter I & II program as Class 245. The Governor's Office also noted that four new fire stations have opened across the state — in Piketon, Sugar Creek, Mifflin Township and South Vienna — with eight more nearing completion, alongside $15 million in fire-service grants. The State Fire Marshal has trained more than 700,000 responders since 2012, and the academy served about 25,000 people in fiscal year 2026.
