Indiana: Governor Announces Nearly $19 Million in Federal Funding to Expand Workforce Training

Indiana Governor Mike Braun announced this week nearly $19 million in federal funding to strengthen workforce training, expand apprenticeship opportunities and connect more Hoosiers with careers in high-demand industries.
The funding supports four initiatives focused on registered apprenticeships, special education teacher preparation, reentry employment and industry-driven skills training, including $6.7 million from the Industry-Driven Skills Training Fund. State officials said the awards will expand short- and long-term training, including Registered Apprenticeship Programs and Certified Pre-Apprenticeship Programs, in advanced manufacturing, education, information technology, construction and health care.
Braun said Indiana has built a nationally recognized apprenticeship system that connects Hoosiers with career opportunities while helping employers develop skilled workers, and that the investments will build on that success. Secretary of Commerce Chuck Goodrich said connecting Hoosiers with training and educational tools is one of the most important services the state can provide.
The state also reported that its Jobs for Veterans State Grants program exceeded its goals in federal fiscal year 2026, with more than 66% of veterans who exited the program employed in the second quarter, above the 62% goal. The program, operated by the Department of Workforce Development, funds specialized staff at WorkOne offices who serve veterans and connect employers with military talent.
