Michigan: Governor Awards $1.7 Million to Launch 12 Advanced Air Mobility Projects

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced this week that the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity's Office of Future Mobility and Electrification (OFME) has selected 12 projects to deploy Advanced Air Mobility technologies across the state, with $1.7 million in awards. The projects will demonstrate real-world use cases with potential to scale, ranging from organ and medical drone deliveries to safer powerline inspections.
Whitmer said Michigan is a leader in mobility innovation and that the 12 projects will put advanced air mobility technologies to work in communities across the state, creating opportunities for Michigan businesses, strengthening the innovation ecosystem and preparing the workforce for the jobs of the future.
Michigan Chief Mobility Officer Justine Johnson said the state's ability to connect public and private partners to collaborate on deployments demonstrates Michigan's commitment to shared progress. The projects were selected through a competitive process under the Michigan Mobility Funding Platform, administered by NextEnergy.
State officials said the awards advance Executive Directive 2025-4, Michigan's whole-of-government strategy to expand the state's Advanced Air Mobility capabilities and support the safe integration and deployment of these technologies, building on Michigan's growing network of real-world testing environments.
